It's here! Make sure to take a look at the Tournament Weekend Fun page!
I had a really hard time filling this section out for our site. How do I start trying to explain who we are, what we do, and why we do it? How do I do all of that without sounding awkward and self promoting?
But, I realized that our story is just our story. It's simple, but complicated at times. Its ordinary, but sometimes extraordinary. It is what it is, we are who we are, and we do our best. Our story isn't in the details. It's in our history, and in our future.
So, to make a long story somewhat short:
We met in 2006 while we were both young professionals in downtown Chicago. We married in 2009 and welcomed Henry into the world in 2010.
Henry was diagnosed with Autism in 2014 when he was 4 years old. While we worked on adjusting to our new "normal," we reached out to our community for support. It was during this time that we joined a hockey tournament that was organized for the Autism Society of Illinois.
In 2016, Shawn took over the planning and execution of the hockey tournament because he believed that it could be so much more than what it was. That is the year that Pucks for Autism came to fruition.
We created Pucks for Autism because we believe that volunteering and supporting our community is important. It really does take a village to raise a child and we all have to do our parts to make sure that all children, regardless of abilities, have the same opportunities as their peers.
